NotToScale Architecture proposes original planning strategies based on a specialized research work focused on contemporary city, informal settlements, social and economic urban dynamics, sustainability, resilience, climate change adaptation and participation processes. In the architectural design field, the firm develops innovative solutions to fit the requirements of contemporary life, working on various aspects of the project including technical solutions and interior design proposals.
NotToScale Architecture creates innovative graphic design projects, custom illustrations and complex infographics for data representation. Thanks to the collaboration with professional graphic designers, it has been involved in the realization of international exhibitions, editorial projects, brand identity and other creative projects.
NotToScale Architecture’s work is characterized by a particular aptitude for experimentation: every project is developed following a specific process of research with the aim of providing personalized solutions that are never conventional. In addition to the work with public and private costumers, NotToScale Architecture collaborates with international firms like Fare Arte in São Paulo (Brazil), Lab.Pro.Fab and The Public Machinery in Caracas (Venezuela) and Umeå (Sweden), Ezquiaga Arquitectura, Sociedad y Territorio in Madrid (Spain) and Single Frame in Milan (Italy).

Phd Architect and Urban Planner
Born in Treviso (Italy), Valentina studied architecture at Superior Technical School of Architecture of Madrid and at the Polytechnic University of Milan, where she graduated in July 2012. She has international experience in many countries such as Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Nicaragua, Spain, Italy, Morocco, United States and Switzerland. As a published artist and author, tutor and lecturer, her experiences and perspectives are well-rounded and deeply matured. In March 2013 she started collaborating with urbz Brazil-São Paulo and one year later she became one of the partners who coordinates the Brazilian section of the group. In 2014 Valentina founded NotToScale Architecture Studio in Switzerland, a design and consulting firm in the field of architecture and urban planning. In 2017, she holds a PhD in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Milan and Superior Technical School of Architecture of Madrid with the thesis “Undergrowth Urbanism. User-generated practices in the contemporary city. Towards a methodology of analysis and intervention in the informal city”. Her research work is focused on participation processes and spontaneous dynamics existing in the informal city. In 2018 she founded the BUUP group with Fernando Botton, a collective of architects specialized in the regeneration and upgrading processes within the informal city. Currently she is focused on urban and territorial planning, carrying out consultancy and project coordination services for private customers and companies. At the same time she is involved in the implementation of urban design projects together with a team of city specialists from different fields. In the recent months she started to investigate new possible urban planning forms based on the use of open data, infographic mapping, participation processes and community engagement.
